Addiction Recovery Management ““ Dawn Farm Education Series

Addiction is a lifelong, potentially relapsing disorder more effectively managed with a chronic model of care than the acute care model that is most commonly employed. Learn from a renowned expert in this field about how the chronic care model applies to addiction and other illnesses and why disease management programs (such as recovery management programs for impaired health care professionals) are a sustainable model for the future of addiction treatment. Dr. McCauley will discuss the implications what he calls, “the most important question about addiction: “Is it really a “disease?,” define acute and chronic models of care and the benefits and drawbacks of each, discuss disease management and outline the elements of an effective recovery management program, including examples with proven efficacy.

Reception: There will be a reception from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, with light food, beverages, and the opportunity to meet and socialize.

About the presenter:

Kevin T. McCauley, MD

Kevin McCauley, M.D. is a nationally-recognized leader in the field of addiction treatment and an advocate for the patient rights of those suffering from the disease of addiction to alcohol/other drugs. He is a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly the Medical College of Pennsylvania.) After medical school Dr. McCauley joined the United States Navy and served as Flight Surgeon to a Marine helicopter squadron at Marine Corps Air Station Tustin in Orange County, California, and then a Marine F/A-18 Hornet training squadron at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. While working as a flight surgeon he treated pilots with alcohol and other drug problems. From 2009-2013 Dr. McCauley was the Director of Le Mont Michel, a sober living/recovery management program in Sandy, Utah that utilizes a recovery model used for impaired professionals. Dr. McCauley is a co-founder of and currently works with The Institute for Addiction Study a group dedicated to helping individuals, families, and professionals understand addiction. He is the author of many articles and tapes, including the award-winning DVD Pleasure Unwoven, which received the NAATP Michael Q. Ford journalism award in 2010.
