Grief Group

This is just an FYI.

You may not be aware that we are co-sponsoring a grief group in Livonia for families that have lost a family member to drug or alcohol use. The group is being facilitated by Tana Bridge, a member of the social work faculty at EMU and an expert in traumatic loss, and Melissa Murphy, our EMU MSW intern.

The first group met this week and we had 7 moms who lost a child to drug and/or alcohol use. The group went very well and we hope to have more people at the next group in January.

New Art New Artists Exhibition

This exhibition includes some Dawn Farm clients. Visit the exhibition or the reception if you can:
The New Art New Artists Exhibition featuring photographs from the special ops crew of the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair is now installed and on display at the Ann Arbor District Library. We had briefly discussed hosting a reception, and because of the short time in which we pulled this project together we did not have much of a selection in the way of available dates. We were able to reserve Monday November 19, from 7 – 8pm to celebrate this successful project and all the people involved in making it possible.

Welcome New House Managers

It's with great pleasure that we welcome Nancy Thom and Patrick Hayes to our Transitional Housing team. Nancy will take the position at our new Aspen Chase apartments. Patrick will take over Bill Zambon's position (who is transferring to Aspen Chase) at Chapin Street. We are so excited about the growth of our housing program and none of this could have been possible without the willingness of these individuals. WELCOME!

Quote for the month

I don't think happiness or unhappiness is the point. How do we meet the
problems we face? How do we best learn from them and transmit what we have
learned to others, if they would receive the knowledge?

In my view, we of this world are pupils in a great school of life. It is
intended that we try to grow, and that we try to help our fellow travelers
to grow in the kind of love that makes no demands. In short, we try to move
toward the image and likeness of God as we understand Him.

When pain comes, we are expected to learn from it willingly, and help
others to learn. When happiness comes, we accept it as a gift, and thank God
for it.
