Employee of the Month

Anna Byberg, Detox Counselor, is the Employee of the Month. Anna began working at Detox in February, 2005. Anna brings a positive attitude to work and does what is needed to get the job done. Besides helping alcoholics and addicts, she can also be found working in the yard, or directing others to work in the yard - another passion she brings with her. Anna is a team player, when her collegues request time off, she is quite often willing to change her schedule. Recently, Anna accepted the challenge to facilitate a group at Outpatient and loves it! Keep up the great work, Anna!

Volunteer of the Month

Paul Baetz has been nominated "volunteer of the month." Since January, 2007, Paul has volunteered his services at Detox, cleaning the entire house 1x/week! Detox staff and clients really appreciate his services - we can count on coming into a clean house every Monday morning - thank you, Paul!

Training reminders

Two upcoming trainings:
  • This Friday (8/17/07) from 9am to noon in the Barn, I'll do our 3rd installment of Counseling 101. Please let me know if you plan to attend.
  • Next Wednesday (8/22/07) Jim will present Addiction 101 from 1pm to 4pm in the Barn. I'd like as many staff as possible to attend. This is our first presentation in collaboration with Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw and the Delonis Center. The event is approved for Social Work licensure CE credit and CAC credit. Please come and meet your colleagues from CSS and the Delonis Center. I get something new from it every time I hear it.

State Conference

The 8th Annual Michigan Substance Abuse Conference is about a month away. We can send another two employees. If you would like to go, let me know within the next day or two. I'll make a decision on Thursday about who we'll send.

WCHO site visit

Our annual WCHO site visit was this past Wednesday and Thursday and I'm told it went very smoothly. Bev and Andrew did a great job preparing.

There was a time when we'd scramble to prepare casefiles for these site visits. There has been none of that the last several years. I'm proud that our work is consistently of high quality and routinely impresses surveyors.

Thanks for your great work!

Psych Fellows

I thought all of you would like to know that it looks like our residential treatment sites may become a rotation site for U-M addiction psychiatry fellows. Jim, Dr. Christensen, Dr. Gibbons and I met with their staff and agreed that it would be mutually beneficial.

The proposal will work its way through U-M in the coming months. We'll keep you posted.
