Volunteer of the Month

John McNalley is our August 2006 volunteer of the month. John stepped up to the plate in making our Japanese guest Shoichi Sugiue (Paul) feel welcome and at home for his extended 2 week stay here in our community. Skill Building for the Month

We can learn a lot from other professions. The skills required to be a good interviewer are very similar whether you're a journalist or a counselor. Journalism professor John Sawatsky has challenged his profession to avoid the mistakes he sees in the profession's big names like Mike Wallace, Larry King and Barbara Walters.

Here are lists of "What to do" and "What to avoid." He also has a list of the Seven Deadly Sins of Interviewing. You can find a lot more on his method by googling him.

Welcome Daybreak Therapists

Daybreak recently hired two new therapists: Veronica Smith and Mary Capriotti. Veronica brings experience from FIA and hospice; Mary recently graduated from Wayne State University. Both have a great desire to work with adolescents, "I love the challenge," they each stated during the interveiw. Welcome Veronica and Mary!

Employee of the Month

Vince Swain is the our August employee of the month. Vince has been a Recovery Support Specialist with the Daybreak Program for over 3 years, bringing dedication, positive attitude, and the willingness to go the "extra mile" to the team. Recently, Vince had an opportunity to be with our friends from Japan, "pretty much 24/7" for the duration. His energy was spread throughout the week, laughing and joking with our visitors, sharing the "language of the heart" with many. Thank you Vince for being a part of the Dawn Farm Team.
